What a predicament!

Misty and I agree that a true friend would not date or sleep with a friend's crush.

But would a true friend "fake" dating or sleeping with a friend's crush to avoid the advances of another guy?

I ask 'cause Misty's trying to pimp me out and I think it would serve her right. Do I just scream desperate?

I just called, to say, I heart you…

An amazing thing happened today. Jeff and I finally talked on the phone! It’s a good thing too because I’m apparently going through Jeff withdrawal. My subconscious can’t grasp that I’m not in California anymore; I keep dreaming I’m there with Jeff going out and having a good time. What’s even more amusing is that I grew up in Eastern Standard Time yet after seven months on the West Coast, I still can’t figure out what the time is. I accidentally called a client near Los Angeles at 9:30 a.m. EST – 6:30 a.m. PST! Fortunately she was already up, but still… not a very good impression.

AS MUCH FUN AS YOU CAN HAVE WITHOUT ANOTHER PERSON in bed, that is. And get your minds out the gutter, please! My new plush mattress set is heavenly. I go to bed early, wake up late and do just about anything I can do sitting or laying down on the bed. I didn’t even realize how much I missed it until I rolled over in the middle of the night. I actually threw out my hands to catch myself from hitting the floor before I realized I wasn’t on a couch. You can be sure I had a good laugh over that.

IT’S GOT TO BE THE HUMIDITY/POLLEN/ALTITUDE – Or maybe just the air in general because I’m sick. And, as Jeff will appreciate I’m sure, not a cold/sore throat I can blame on him. Just like he can’t blame Cali’s current bad weather on me. Although, Charlotte has been having pretty crappy weather since I got here… Nope. I refuse to believe it. It’s all a coincidence.

CAN’T FIGHT THE HAPPY FEET! I’ve been in the mood to dance for over a week now. I’m going to have to get the girls from G-wood to come up or I’m going to have to drag out the coworkers because I can’t go much longer without shaking my ass and busting some moves. If it gets much worse, I’m afraid I’ll jump up onto a desk at work and start dropping it like it’s hot.

DID YOU HEAR THE ONE ABOUT THE PRIEST? So, the new job has a late policy. If you don’t make it on time to the 8:30 a.m. daily meeting, you have to either give the bosses a dollar or tell a joke to the whole office. I already used the one joke I can remember and I don’t have dollars to spare so I can use all the help I can get with finding more jokes. Not that I’m planning to be late, but I do have that new mattress…

I left California when?!

I know. I know. It’s been awhile but it's hard to believe I've only been here about 13 days. Since it would take up too much space to tell you everything that's happened, I’ll summarize.

Work – Going very well. My title is marketing copywriter and I basically write content for websites. I even started loaded content onto the sites so eventually I’ll be able to put together a website except for custom designing. Not too bad if I do say so myself. The office is small with only about a dozen people – most of whom are single professionals and all of whom are nice. The topics of conversation are pretty broad including pets, drinking and porn. Definitely more interesting than some jobs I’ve had.

Apartment – It’s wonderful. Misty and I unloaded our stuff Friday night and spent most of the weekend just settling in. (For more on that experience, check out Misty’s latest post on Writersbloc3.) Settling in doesn’t necessarily mean unpacking because we haven’t even been grocery shopping yet. I was able to buy a new mattress set so no more air mattress after tonight! Yay! I did get to decorate my bathroom which has a huge garden tub. LOVE IT! I don’t have a lot of stuff right now (only what I took to Cali) but the parents are bringing the rest down in a few weeks and spending my birthday with me.

Oh, and Jeff and I still haven't caught each other to talk. I did get a wonderful serenade which I really appreciated even though he beat me to the punch. I was going to sing the same song to him! Now I'll have to think of something else. Miss you, sweetheart!

From the Jo' to the Queen City

Yup, that's what they call Charlotte. The past few days have gone surprisingly well considering I moved across the country in less than two weeks. I spent my last night in San Jose with friends singing karaoke. I got dragged into a rendition of “Summer Nights.” After a couple hours of sleep, I got up Wednesday for a day of flying and layovers that eventually got me to my destination. It was a typical trip that included meeting at least one interesting person. This time it was a woman from a marketing company that worked on several Hollywood movies including Shark Tale and Wallace & Gromit. She asked me if I wanted to help out so I ended up writing a little copy for a computer-animated film set for release later this year. Maybe I’ll get freelance work out of it.

The rest of my time has been spent sleeping, eating and adjusting to a full house. I’m currently sharing space with Misty (who will be my roommate), Randi (her current roomie), Alex (Misty’s dog), Winnie and Daisy (Randi’s dog and new puppy). Needless to say, they definitely keep me on my toes. I’ve also been setting up utilities for our new apartment which we will be able to move into next weekend. Very exciting! I realized I haven’t had my own space for about nine months now. About time, don’t you think? I also start the new job Monday, and I’m anxious to get into a routine. Even though everything seems to be falling into place, I don’t think I’ll relax much until I’m completely settled.
